"Spartacus: Blood and Sand" (2010)

Spartacus: Blood and Sand is a Starz television series that premiered on January 22, 2010. The series focuses on the historical figure of Spartacus (played by Andy Whitfield), a Thracian gladiator who from 73 to 71 BC led a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic. Executive producers Steven S. DeKnight and Robert Tapert focused on structuring the events of Spartacus' obscure early life leading to the records of history. The show has been rated TV-MA for graphic violence, strong sexual content, and coarse language.

On December 22, 2009, it was announced that the show was renewed for a second season before even premiering. However, on March 9, 2010, IGN.com reported that the production of Season 2 has been delayed due to star Andy Whitfield being diagnosed with early-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma. According to the weekly New York magazine, due to the delay, Starz is developing a six-episode prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

Dear John is a 2010 American romantic drama/war film starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried. It was released theatrically in North America on February 5, 2010. Directed by Lasse Hallström, the film is an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks's novel of the same name. It shows the life of a soldier (Channing Tatum) after he falls in love with a young woman (Amanda Seyfried). They decide to exchange letters to each other after he is deployed to the war

John Tyree (Channing Tatum) a young soldier from the Army Special Forces, is lying on the ground in his combat gear with multiple gunshot wounds. Coins begin to fall over him as he recalls a childhood trip to the U.S. Coin mint. He goes on to compare himself to a coin in the United States Military and states that the last thing he thought about before he blacked out, was "You".

In 2000, John is on leave when he meets Savannah Lynn Curtis (Amanda Seyfried), a college student on spring break. In a matter of days, Savannah and John fall in love. John meets Savannah's family as well as her neighbor, Tim Wheddon (Henry Thomas) and Tim's autistic son, Alan (Luke Benward), who looks up to Savannah. Savannah meets and befriends John's father, a reclusive man who is only interested in his coin collection. John tells Savannah that his father has always been obsessed with coins and has not been much of a father to John, whose mother is not in the picture. Savannah mentions to John, that his father, like Alan, may have autism. This upsets John, who believes Savannah is calling his father retarded. He is so caught up in his anger that he gets into a fight with Savannah's rich neighbor, Randy (Scott Porter), accidentally punching Tim in the process. John apologizes to Tim the next day and leaves Savannah a note, seeking her forgiveness before his leave comes to an end. Savannah gets the note, and they spend one last day together. John returns to the army and he and Savannah begin a long distance relationship through handwritten letters. John believes that year will be his final year of enlistment, but, following the September 11 attacks, is torn between returning home and his sense of duty. He is given a weekend off, which he spends with Savannah and her family as well as with his father. He asks Savannah for her opinion on whether or not he should re-enlist, and she tells him to do what he feels is right. Like the rest of the soldiers in his unit, John chooses to re-enlist.

Over the next two years, John faces increasingly dangerous missions and begins to live almost entirely for Savannah's letters. John and Savannah find themselves drifting apart. Finally, Savannah, sad but resigned, sends John a Dear John letter, informing him that she has become engaged to someone else. John is deeply depressed and frustrated by the news, and believes she is engaged to Randy. On a mission, he enters a dangerous area and is shot several times by an enemy. His captain suggests that John go home and spend time with his father, but John, still upset about Savannah, he chooses to re-enlist again. He decides that he will make a career out of the Army and stay enlisted for as long as possible. For the next four years John takes part in many missions with his new unit spanning from the early years of the invasion of Iraq to the current resurgent conflicts in Afghanistan.

While stationed in Qatar, John is informed after another mission that he is being sent home, because his father suffered a sever stroke and was not found until days after the stroke, John feels guilt that maybe if he was there the outcome for his father would be better. The Doctor assures him that his presence and quicker medical attention would do little to help his father due to the severity of the stroke. John spends the last few days of his father's life by his side, and writes him a letter. His father has difficulty opening it, so John reads it to him. It is then that the viewers find out that John's speech at the beginning of the film addressed his father, not Savannah. He and his father connect in a tearful moment, and his father dies. John decides to go see Savannah, and discovers she married Tim, not her rich friend. Savannah tells him Tim has cancer, and is not allowed to leave the hospital. She says that the only way he can come home is by having an experimental drug that they cannot afford. John visits Tim in the hospital, where Tim apologizes to John, confesses he has always loved Savannah & he is at peace for his Son will have a mother and will be cared for. Tim also confesses that Savannah still loves John, he wishes she loved him the same way but accepts what can never be. Late that evening after reconnecting with Savannah John finally says goodbye to her, forcing Savannah to terms with the fact she has lost John, bringing her to tears. John then sells his father's coin collection, although keeping the very first mule coin that was the key element to their bond when he was a boy and marked the start of his father obsession with coin collecting that would later become a wedge in their relationship as John got older. He donates the money from the sale anonymously to finance Tim's operation. The next scene shows John back with his unit using the mule coin he kept for "fate." John then gets an unexpected letter from Savannah.

In the letter, Savannah writes about how she knows that John sold his father's coin collection to help Tim with his operation and thanks him for doing so. Tim dies after two months. She expresses that she still wonders where John is and what he is going through but accepts that she lost the right to know a long time ago. Moved by Savannah's letter, John gets a new lease on life and decides to leave the army after his last tour. In the last scene of the film, John walks a bicycle down the block, and stops to chain it up. At that moment Savannah in the cafe behind him turns and spots him, John turns and they lock eyes through the Cafe's glass plate window. Savannah exits the cafe and embraces him.

Who is Wendy Calio?

Wendy Calio

Wendy Calio is an American actress, singer, dancer and choreographer who is best known for her portrayal of Nina, the spirited ever-smiling neighbor on Playhouse Disney children's series, Imagination Movers. Nina almost always wears red and pink outfits and is often instrumental in helping the imagination movers in their efforts to resolve their clientele’s problems. In the first season Nina worked next door to the Idea Warehouse in her Uncle Knit Knots office. Knit Knots, however, did not continue into the second season. Nina now works as a photographer and often visits the movers to take pictures for the newspaper. She started off as a small character in the show but now, in the second season, is a main character in the show. She has quickly become just as popular as the movers.

Calio was born and raised in Oahu, Hawaii[2] and graduated from Mililani High School[3] in Mililani, Hawaii. She is 5'3", 115 pounds, has black hair with black eyes and is of filipino and caucasian ancestry.[4] Her mother, Theresa Osthoff-Cambonga, currently a business partner in her ventures. Calio started dance training at the age of 4 by taking ballet at The Ballet School in Walnut Creek, California under the direction of Lareen Fender and continued under the direction of John Landowski at Hawaii State Ballet. A few years later she added to her repertoire by studying Contemporary Jazz under Pam Sandridge at Big City Productions. Calio began acting at age 12 when she was cast as the host of "Saturday AM" on Hawaii Public Television.[5] She spent two summers in a studio with 14 other kids filming a local version of "The Mickey Mouse Club". At age 14, Calio was crowned Miss Teen Hawaii Filipina. At 16, she recorded her first song, "I’m Coming Home For Christmas" under the alias of Sabrina Starr.[6]

By the age of 16, Calio was an accomplished actress, vocalist and dance performer. After the release of her first song, Calio started teaching dance at a local community center in Mililani, HI and made headlines for leading over 150 dancers in annual productions at local theatre venues such as Leeward Community College Theatre and Mamiya Theatre. Using the name under which she released her single, she opened her own business, Sabrina Starr Studios, and within a short amount of time made a name for herself as one of Hawaii’s Premiere dance instructors.

Sometime in 2007, Calio began her relationship with Disney as a performer and assistant choreographer in the national tour of Disney’s High School Musical and also appeared in Aladdin’s Musical Spectacular at Disney’s Hyperion Theater. To get the role of Nina on the Imagination Movers, Calio reportedly beat out over 800 hopefuls auditioning for the role in New York, Florida and Los Angeles.[5] In October 2008, Calio married [7] Jeremy Gilbert in a ceremony that took place at the Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute in Kapolei, HI.[8] After finishing work on the second season of Imagination Movers in Louisiana, Calio moved back to Los Angeles. Calio is in process of opening a dance studio in Hawaii, called Pas De Deux Performing Arts School and Pas De Deux Dance Company.[6] The new studio is scheduled to open May 1st of 2010 and is located in Waipahu, HI[9]. Calio is also in the process of creating a children's book.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead Profile

Mary Elizabeth Winstead picture wallpaper
Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (born November 28, 1984) is an American actress. Winstead has been called a scream queen because of her roles in the horror films Monster Island, The Ring Two, Final Destination 3, Black Christmas, Death Proof, and The Thing. She has also branched out into other genres, including her roles in the blockbuster films Sky High, Bobby, Live Free or Die Hard/Die Hard 4.0, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Throughout her career, she was nominated for a Young Artist Award for her work in Passions, and she was part of the cast of Bobby, where she was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Winstead was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, the daughter of Betty Lou (née Knight) and James Ronald Winstead. When she was five, her family moved to Sandy, Utah, a Salt Lake City suburb. Her interest in performing art also began to emerge with interests in ballet and acting. As a child, Winstead appeared in the Mountain West Ballet's version of The Nutcracker. Hoping to become a ballerina, at the age of eleven, she received the opportunity to study dance in a summer program of the prestigious Joffrey Ballet School in New York City. There, she studied ballet and jazz dance, but decided to also study acting. Winstead ended up appearing on Broadway during Donny Osmond’s successful run of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She was also a member of the International Children's Choir during her youth and honed her skills performing at her church.

Winstead began her acting career at age 13, guest starring in episodes of the CBS dramas Touched by an Angel and Promised Land, before being cast as Jessica Bennett in the NBC soap opera Passions, a role she played from 1999 to 2000. She subsequently appeared in the short-lived CBS drama series Wolf Lake (2001-2002), and in the made-for-television film Monster Island (2002). Trying her hand at comedy, she went the independent film route as the Jewish daughter of a large, zany family in the indie feature Checking Out, but her screen time fared better in the more mainstream Walt Disney Pictures confection Sky High, which was both financially and critically successful. She starred as Gwen Grayson, the in-disguise alter ego of the supervillain Royal Pain.

After the exposure Sky High provided, 2006 saw her forge a professional relationship with the creative team of James Wong and Glen Morgan, formerly best known for their memorable contributions to The X-Files. She and her co-star, Ryan Merriman, landed in the path of the grim reaper’s master plan in Final Destination 3. She had failed to land a part in the second film in the trilogy, but found her place in the third installment, which to this day is the most successful of the trilogy. This has been the highest-grossing film that she has had a lead role in. Morgan and Wong wanted to collaborate with her again and convinced her to appear in their sorority slasher Black Christmas. The film, however, failed with critics and viewers but it earned her a nomination for Scream Queen at the 2007 Scream Awards.

One day, she inadvertently received a chance to lampoon horror scream queens when The Tonight Show host Jay Leno, unaware of who she was, knocked on her front door and included her in a comedy segment spoofing horror movies. That same year, she appeared in Emilio Estevez's Bobby, a valentine to the politics and morals of Robert F. Kennedy, which drew moderate critical attention, and became a minor box office success. The film's cast included Laurence Fishburne, Anthony Hopkins, Ashton Kutcher, William H. Macy, Demi Moore, and Sharon Stone, but most of her scenes were with Shia LaBeouf and Brian Geraghty. She and her co-stars were nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Cast in a Motion Picture.

In 2007, Winstead appeared in a pair of high-profile event films. Quentin Tarantino cast her as a well-intentioned but vapid and naïve actress in his high-speed segment of Grindhouse called Death Proof, his half of a double-billed feature. The film failed to produce ticket sales, but drew critical acclaim. Death Proof is also the second film to feature both Winstead and Kurt Russell. Winstead appeared in most of the films marketing campaignes, possibly due to her cloths which resemble Uma Thurman's character in Kill Bill, Tarantino's earlier film. The same summer, hot off the heels of its release, Winstead received another shot at action as Lucy McClane in Live Free or Die Hard co-starring Bruce Willis (who also starred in a segment of Grindhouse, Planet Terror). The film earned over $130 million domestically, making it the highest grossing film that features Winstead.

Winstead has recently screen tested for the role of Wonder Woman in the film adaption of Justice League.[1] She starred in Make It Happen, a dance film. The film went straight to DVD in the US, and gained a small collection in the UK, which eventually led to its financial failure. It was also announced on May 16, 2008, that Winstead would co-star opposite Michael Cera in forthcoming comic-book adaptation Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.[2] Filming began in early March[3] and wrapped on August 28th, 2009.[4] On February 2010, Winstead landed the lead role in the prequel to The Thing, which is directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr..
